Bridge bearings rectification. Bridge expansion joints repair.

Bridge bearings

Bridge bearings are a very important element of any bridge structure.  Due to their large dimensions, bridges are exposed to large changes when it comes to linear deformability. Bridge bearings are to ensure proper operation of the structure in terms of displacements that are planned.  Problems arise if the permissible operating range of the bearing has been exceeded.

Replacement

In most cases, the only way to restore the proper operation of the bearing is to replace it.  It consists in lifting the bridge, removing the defective bearing and installing a new one.  Sometimes it is enough to forge a grout, but in some cases you need to forge a part of the lower plinth.

Repairing expansion joints

A leakage through the expansion joint device may occur in many cases.  That leakage may be visible on the backwall or the crossbar. If, as a result of an inspection, no defects in the sealing element are revealed, we can be sure that the leakage occurs at the profile-concrete connection.

It happens that, if the steel profile is poorly merged with the backwall concrete, cars will make the backwall vibrate.  After a few months, the vibrations will be so intense that you will hear cars going by from a distance of several meters and the wearing course near the expansion joint will be cracked.  Our repair technology does not require closing the road along the whole expansion joint.  We are able to carry out successful repairs in sections.

Rectifying bearings

In the case below, you can see that the pot bearing has completely lost the ability to rotate.

This case was very troublesome. The acceptable working range needed to be selected because of the crossbar being rotated.  Of course, it was not possible to “unscrew” the crossbar, so you had to find another way to rectify the bearing.

The goal was to set the bearing horizontally despite the twisted crossbar.

To do this, it was necessary to dismantle the bearing and rebuild its siting, as well as rebuild the crossbar.
